We are proud to announce that we will be embarking on a historic mission to refurbish 6 Bolnes engines, which were originally commissioned in 3 locations in East Kalimantan Indonesia, during 1960.

After intense negotiations, the rehabilitation contract was signed by Mr Erwin Vanderkerff, Director, Wärtsilä Indonesia and Mr Irwan Zuhri, General Manager PT Pertamina EP in Balikpapan on July 16^th 2019.

The 6x 20DVL Bolnes engines, now 59 years old, will be completely rehabilitated to meet the original design criteria and will continue to drive crude oil pumping stations for Pertamina’s oil exploration fields in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Pertamina’s decision to rehabilitate the Bolnes engines, despite their extensive years of operation, relate to the very specific design and operating principles (running on crude oil at 428 rpm, requiring a high torque to start the pumps).

Storm Engines and Parts BV (QuantiParts distributor for Bolnes) will manufacture specific components and provide engine expertise on site. QuantiParts will be responsible for the supply of all required spare parts and technical assistance and Wärtsilä Indonesia will provide the Field Service engineering during the refurbishment.

This engine rehabilitation is a great example of cooperation between parties involved, based on their specific expertise as well the required agility to refurbish these classic engines succesfully.
